Cyber Insurance
Coverage for losses from digital attacks and data breaches across response, recovery, and liability.
Overview
Policies cover breach response costs, forensics, notification, credit monitoring, legal defense, regulatory fines where insurable, business interruption from ransomware, extortion payments, and data restoration. Underwriting now hinges on security hygiene: multi factor authentication, endpoint detection, patching, backups, and tested incident response are routinely required to bind, with carriers declining flat networks. Ransomware and supply chain incidents pushed loss ratios up after 2020, raising premiums sharply and tightening war and infrastructure exclusions. Standalone policies dominate over packaged endorsements, and tower structures share large limits among several insurers. Carriers also bring breach coaches and panels of forensics and legal firms, which speeds containment as much as money does.
